DESCRIPTION The programme is a Masters by research. The students will hence be required to present a master's thesis towards its end (semesters 3 in full time mode and semester 9 in part time mode) to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of their field of specialisation.

Study-unit Aims:

To demonstrate mastery (knowledge, understanding and skills) in a particular field of aerospace research.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1) Identify a research problem and discuss the importance of the problem and its consequences;
2) In particular areas of application, develop a comprehension of the multivariate and/or multifaceted nature of the research problem;
3) Develop a literature review to establish various approaches that have been adopted for solving the research problem;
4) Develop a critical analysis of the literature review and demonstrate awareness of the advances in the field;
5) Identify a gap in knowledge and propose a solution to the problem;
6) Describe the limitations in the modelling or experimental techniques.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1) Develop modelling tools or experiments to investigate the problem further and/or investigate case scenarios;
2) Demonstrate skills in handling data, writing academic reports and time management;
3) Develop the ability to work on his own initiative and without supervision, and to interact with academics and profesionals in the field;
4) Present research results to members of academia and the general public during national and international events, including seminars, conferences, and exhibitions.

The choice of subjects is varied and supplementary readings will be recommended accordingly.

 
ADDITIONAL NOTES Pre-Requisite qualification: Undergraduate degree

**September Assessment Session: Students who fail to obtain an overall pass mark will be re-examined in the Dissertation. However, the resit availability for the Oral Examination is at the discretion of the Board of Examiners.
