| DESCRIPTION | This unit will focus on the acquisition of basic ceramic techniques. Students will model forms in clay, using different clay tools. Basic techniques like pinching, slabbing and use of slip will be used during lectures. Students will practice in basic techniques and surface qualities by producing a number of ceramic objects. Lectures will stress techniques that can be used in secondary classrooms. Learning outcomes: - Students will learn the specific techniques of clay pottery and ceramics - Students will produce a number of ceramic objects that can be fired Reading List: - Daniel Rhodes, Clay and Glazes for the Craft Potter; - Kenneth Clark, Ceramics Manual; - Bernard H. | ADDITIONAL NOTES | Range of Acceptable Students: Offered to B.Ed (Hons) Art students. A Pass at Advanced Level at Grade C or better in Art or equivalent from a foreign university. Only 10 students will be registered for this study-unit including B. Ed. Art students (if B. Ed. Art students already exceed this limit, no other students will be accepted). |
