DESCRIPTION Study-unit Aims:

- To examine important themes of study and debates within feminist anthropology in relation to questions of social justice.
- To introduce key concepts, theories, and contributions to knowledge production of feminist anthropology.
- To explore methodological issues and concerns raised by feminist anthropologists and ethnographers.
- To reflect on gendered power relations in a cross-cultural context.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- llustrate the history of feminist anthropology.
- Discuss different theoretical perspectives and key concepts in feminist anthropology.
- Explain the impact of identity and positionality on ethnographic research and writing.
- Interpret different social expectations and meanings about gender and sex across cultures.

2. Skills (including transferable [generic] skills):

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Relate academic knowledge to contemporary gender issues.
- Prepare and deliver a presentation.
- Write an assignment with an analytically strong argument.
- Reflect on ethical issues related to ethnographic fieldwork.
