DESCRIPTION | The study-unit will be divided into classroom lectures and placements in local galleries. conservation and restoration laboratories and auction houses. This will provide students with a hands-on experience into working in the art world, and provide direct insight into the different work environments related to the study of art and architectural history. The study-unit, in this way, seeks to bridge the gap between the theoretical learning of the subject, with the direct personal engagement in a work-based environment, in both the public and private sector. The student will therefore be able to witness the goings on in galleries, such as the setting up of exhibitions, the organisation of events, such as artist talks and public lectures, etc. In this way, students can have a better understanding and awareness of possible employment opportunities in the field of art history. Study-unit Aims: - To expose the students to practical applications in the local work environments related to art/architectural history subject matter; - To provide students with range of employment opportunities and potential for further specialization. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Understand the basic elements that go into organising a temporary exhibition, such as transporting the works of art, hanging art works, the importance of display, lighting, public relations, printing of media, organising artist talks. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Be conversant on the goings on at a gallery or in exhibition spaces; - Identify how best to showcase particular works of art; - How to generate interest in exhibitions; - Assist an artist/curator by identifying which works are to be displayed, how and where in an exhibition, PR, and more. |
