| DESCRIPTION | This advanced study-unit delves into the strategic aspects of Supply Chain & Operations Management (SCOM) through an intensive study of sophisticated strategies aimed at facilitating seamless global integration, information support, and payment flows. Employing a project-oriented approach, students synthesize knowledge from diverse supply chain contexts to develop and execute comprehensive supply chain strategies that foster enhanced competitiveness. The curriculum places significant emphasis on cutting-edge topics such as product and technology development, sustainability, and digitization. Equipping students with refined decision-making skills to navigate uncertainty and manage risks effectively, the study-unit also explores developing a responsive mindset, emphasizing the cultivation of resiliency within SCOM. Understanding comprehensively these strategies is important because their effective implementation in an organization can significantly impact the overall competitiveness of the business. Furthermore, these strategies can be helpful in enhancing operational efficiencies, implementing risk management techniques, optimizing processes, identify and eliminate inefficiencies, reducing overall costs and, in general, well-optimized supply chains can be a source of competitive advantage. In developing students’ strategic expertise, the study-unit addresses a range of pivotal supply chain challenges, encompassing planning, network configuration, SCOM policy, and customer service management. The overarching goal is to provide students with a holistic and integrated perspective on critical SCOM decisions that companies encounter within the dynamic landscape of our new economy. An intense exploration into the role of supply chain design in business strategy underscores its indispensable link to a company's overall success. Furthermore, the study-unit examines the forces influencing supply chain structure, emphasizing the incorporation of supply chain flexibility and agility. The transformative impact of e-business on supply chains receives attention, as students explore industry-leading best practices and current trends in supply chain strategy, informing their decision-making. Participants will emerge from the course equipped with profound insights into innovative approaches and best practices, empowering them to drive significant improvements in SCOM and corporate performance. Study-unit Aims: The aims of the study-unit are as follows: - To provide an advanced in-depth study of integrated supply chain theory, strategy, and practice; - To develop an understanding of strategic tradeoff logic, product v. service value creation, networks & collaboration, inventory visibility and transparency, process synchronization, information management, sourcing logic, warehouse design, and technological solutions. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - identify emerging strategies and thinking at the C-suite/strategic level; - identify raw data and use complex decision-making tools to cover the newest supply chain strategic thinking; - discuss salient topics related to supply chain challenges; - report effectively the theoretical implications to practice. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - evaluate and manage current issues, problems, and practices in supply chain management; - envisage the role of global supply chain management and its relationship with other functional areas of the business; - categorise and analyse supply chain management concepts and techniques; - evaluate decision-making considering a wide array of inputs (data) while balancing consequences; - compare and contrast supply chain requirements and implications of strategic supply chain decisions.
