| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit offers an in-depth introduction to the theory, instruments, and terminology of fixed income markets from a financial perspective. Emphasis is placed on the practical application of these concepts to develop both knowledge and analytical skills. Core topics include the principles of fixed income investing, bond valuation techniques, interest rate risk, and the role of fixed income securities in portfolio management. The study-unit is designed to equip students with a solid foundation in fixed income analytics, supporting effective decision-making in real-world financial contexts. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to introduce students to the fundamental concepts, instruments, and functioning of fixed income markets. It also aims to develop a deep understanding of bond valuation techniques, interest rate structures, and risk management tools specific to fixed income securities. The study-unit also aims to equip students with the analytical skills necessary to assess fixed income investments and understand their role in portfolio construction and financial strategy and to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios using industry-standard tools and data sources, enhancing students’ practical and decision-making competencies. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Describe the features of the main fixed income instruments; - Know how to value fixed income securities; - Explain the different investment risks associated with fixed income securities; - Show the application of the various vehicles falling in this asset class. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Perform security analysis; - Build portfolios; - Evaluate investment performance; - Use asset-pricing models.
