| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit consists of practical work held over a period of one month during the summer semester, in a museum, heritage site, or similar institution. Students will be encouraged to undertake this summer work placement abroad, under the supervision of professional cultural heritage managers within an approved university or institution. By means of supervised practical work, the students will practice a range of hands-on activities, including engagement with the public. Study-unit Aims - To continue to develop skills and critical judgment in practical cultural heritage resource management - To encourage students to apply knowledge gained through the various components of the curriculum of the MA programme. Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Describe the respective roles and interdependencies between different units of the host organisation; - Critically evaluate different management approaches; - Describe the advantages and disadvantages of different strategies. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Work efficiently as a member of a professional team; - Explain different specialised tasks to the public; - Plan tasks and manage time, working under pressure to meet deadlines. | ADDITIONAL NOTES | This study-unit is assessed on a Pass/Fail basis. In order to achieve a Pass, students must: 1. Complete four weeks of full-time work at the host institution, to the satisfaction of the host institution; and 2. Maintain and submit a Reflective Diary of the required standard. |
