| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will look at the practical or applied aspect of Museology. The course will look at the techniques which have been developed to fulfil museal operations. The process of enumeration and the practical activities associated with museums will also be discussed. List of Lectures: 1. A definition of Museography 2. The planning of the Museum 3. Conservation and Restoration within the Museum 4. Security and Care of Collections 5. Exhibition Techniques 6. On site Lecture to critically evaluate a Museum Exhibition 7. Interactivity within the Museum 8. Analyzing the Museum Audience 9. Collection Management 10. Inventorying the Museum 11. Communication Methods 12. The Media and Museum 13. Developing and Designing the Exhibition 14. Developing Texts within Museums Study-unit Aims: The aim of this study-unit is to get students to understand the basic tools of a museographer and how they are used within a museum enviornment. It also seeks to link the theoretical with the practical in the management of collections and developing of exhibitions. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - have a good grasp of what museography entails and the various techniques that are utilised within the museum environment to fulfil those aims; - critically evaluate a museum exhibition based on the topics discussed which are prevalent to contemporary museums.
