DESCRIPTION This study-unit is suitable for students who have completed the courses of Elementary Chinese 1 and 2 , or who have the equivalent knowledge of these latter study-units.
This study-unit is a natural progression from the Elementary Chinese courses. it continues to focus on developing the practical listening, spoken,reading and writing skills of the course participants, but gradually it moves on to use the Chinese language to express one’s ideas and viewpoints with a wider range of vocabulary on various topics.

Study-unit Aims

1. to introduce 400 more characters and about 700 more words
2. to help students to communicate freely in daily life situations,
3. to help students to describe some events and to express their own ideas and views on a wider range of topics.
4. The language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing will be highly improved.

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1. recognise and write 400 new Chinese characters
2. learn a higher level of Chinese vocabulary (700 words) and use them correctly
3. master the Chinese sentence structure and grammar in the courses
4. understand more Chinese etiquette and customs related to the course content.

2. Skills (including transferable [generic] skills): By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1. communicate with Chinese people in a variety of situations
2. read and write complex sentences, as well as to translate sentences into English
3. to pay very close attention to details both in Chinese as well as in various life situations.
