DESCRIPTION The study-unit is designed to further develop the language skills in Chinese based on the Intermediate Chinese 1. It continues to further focus on developing the listening, spoken,reading and writing skills. It also gradually moves on in helping the students to use the Chinese language to express their own ideas and viewpoints with a much wider range of vocabulary on a more various topics.

Study-unit Aims

1. To introduce 500 more characters and about 900 more words.
2. To help students to engage in discussions about non-specialist current topics
3. To help students to obtain the freedom to develop their own vocabulary depending on their interests,
4. To help students to develop the skills needed to gather information from authentic sources in Chinese.

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1. recognise and write 500 new Chinese characters
2. learn a higher level of Chinese vocabulary (900 words) and use them correctly
3. master the Chinese sentence structure and grammar
4. understand more Chinese etiquette and customs related to the course content.

2. Skills (including transferable [generic] skills): By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1. discuss non-specialist current topics
2. have the freedom to develop their own vocabulary depending on their interest
3. develop the skills needed to gather information from authentic sources in Chinese.
4. translate Chinese short articles into English
5. write letters,diaries, and short essays in Chinese
