DESCRIPTION Thirty years ago, China adopted a policy of reform and of opening itself up to other countries and cultures. Since then, both from the Chinese view of the outside world and from the world´s attitude towards China, many things have changed. The study-unit offers a general overview of China today. The selected topics include: The Chinese Lifestyle; Today's environment in China; The Young Generation Of China; Western Festival In China( Christmas Day, Valentine's Day); Chinese families and marriages; Entertainment; Beijing After The Olympics; Contemporary Landscape Painting.

Study-unit Aims

1. To arouse the students’ curiosity and interest in contemporary China.
2. To help the students know the social and political situation in contemporary China.

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1. have a solid basic knowledge about contemporary China.
2. have a grasp of the most important cultural technical terms used in Chinese daily life today.

2. Skills (including transferable [generic] skills): By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1. know the reason for China's change in policy.
2. compare today's China with contemporary Malta.
