| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is suitable for students who have completed the study-unit entitled Chinese Language 1, or who have the equivalent knowledge of this latter study-unit. It is designed to reinforce and further develop language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing as it relates to everyday life situations. More Chinese characters and vocabulary, further knowledge of sentence structures, grammar and Chinese customs related to the unit's content will be introduced. Learners will also develop essential skills in using Chinese and be ready to go on to the next level. Study-unit Aims The study-unit aims to assist students in: 1. learning a further 200 commonly used Chinese Characters. 2. learning about 200 more words of essential vocabulary. 3. understanding and using correctly more basic Chinese grammar and sentence structures. 4. being able to describe some events and to express their own ideas and views while participating in conversations on a limited range of topics. 5. becoming more acquainted with aspects of Chinese culture and society related to the course materials. Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1) recognize and write 200 more Chinese characters, so that at least a total of 400 Chinese characters will have been learnt. 2) develop a vocabulary of at least 200 words and frequently used phrases. 3) master further basic Chinese grammar and sentence structures. 4) comprehend simple Chinese etiquette and customs related to the course content. 5) achieve the level of HSK-2. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1) make a close reading of texts . 2) develop a greater attention to detail. 3) learn to dialogue better. 4) appreciate better other cultures.
