| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit aims to integrate all the knowledge (namely words, grammar, pragmatics, etc.) and skills of the Chinese language that the students have acquired in the three years of their study, with a focus on Chinese reading and writing. It will offer students the opportunity to practice reading Chinese texts and writing Chinese compositions at an advanced level. The students are expected to show that they can read and understand well various types of Chinese texts such as newspapers, short stories, novels, as well as select texts from the web. They must also demonstrate they the possess the necessary skills to read and understand the aforementioned texts in a relatively short time. Besides, they need to show that they can write in Chinese using the correct characters, vocabulary, grammar, syntax, and idioms. Study-unit Aims: 1. Help students consolidate their knowledge of written Chinese; 2. Enable students to strengthen their confidence with Chinese grammar and characters; 3. Help the students produce a comprehensive picture of their Chinese language studies. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate mastery of written Chinese; 2. Read, comprehend and provide a grammatical analysis of Chinese written texts; 3. Formulate complex arguments in Chinese in a pre-advanced level. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Translate Chinese texts accurately and comprehensively; 2. Employ the appropriate words and grammar patterns to illustrate their own ideas; 3. Summarize and explain the meaning of advanced Chinese written texts.
