Study-Unit Description

CODE CIS5225

TITLE Digital Health Systems

UM LEVEL 05 - Postgraduate Modular Diploma or Degree Course

MQF LEVEL 7

ECTS CREDITS 5

DEPARTMENT Computer Information Systems

DESCRIPTION This study-unit will focus on the design of healthcare solutions. Efficiency and effectiveness can be achieved by understanding the business processes required to manage healthcare ecosystems. Different scenarios will be considered involving designing solutions that are targeted to healthcare services including core systems. A major challenge is acquiring data from different sources. Health systems lack user centric design limiting the possibility of uptake of these solutions. Therefore, stakeholders need to participate actively in designing proper solutions by evaluating proposed solutions. Data is an important part of these solutions. Digital health systems allow practitioners to understand patient needs and manage healthcare more efficiently. The use of commonly used data analytics tools will allow users to process data which will provide them with the necessary skills to draw conclusions accordingly.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit provides an understanding of the different types of digital health solutions. Students will be given an opportunity to master the basic concepts related to enterprise technology for healthcare and OpenEHR solutions. It also aims at giving the theoretical background needed to process the data and analyse data using BI through popular analytics tools. Students will be introduced to internet of things (IoT) platforms, wireless sensors networks and pervasive solutions that can be integrated in the mentioned IT solutions. Moreover, the study-unit covers commonly used tools to analyse the data, interpret it and take action.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Describe core software solutions that are adopted in the local healthcare ecosystem;
- Design and construct solutions using proper requirement gathering techniques;
- Evaluate the solutions by creating usability studies;
- Analyse data that is provided by healthcare solutions;
- Support medical practitioners when preparing the requirement and selecting solutions for the healthcare entity.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Recognise proper studies for usability testing;
- Recognise the best practices on the use of apps in digital health ecosystem;
- Select appropriate ERP healthcare solutions;
- Use tools to analyse data;
- List requirements needed to design digital health solutions.
