TITLE Client Presentation 1

UM LEVEL 03 - Years 2, 3, 4 in Modular Undergraduate Course

MQF LEVEL 6

ECTS CREDITS 4

DEPARTMENT Communication Therapy

DESCRIPTION The presented session should be well structured and relevant to the communication skills and needs of the respective client. A session plan should be made available by the student to assessors just before the examination session with clear aims and objectives backed up by appropriate rationales including supporting references. The session is either video-recorded in a clinic during a clinical placement or carried out in the University Teaching and Research clinic during the assessment session (as requested by the Department).

The session (or viewing of the video-clip) is followed up by a minimum of 2 assessors who would then conduct a viva voce with the student whereby the latter would be expected to give an evaluation of the session.

A case file of the respective client is presented prior to the "Client Presentation 1" session and marked separately by the assessors. Questions related to the case file may be posed by the assessors during the viva voce.

Study-unit Aims:

Students are expected to integrate theoretical understanding, knowledge and skills by running a clinical session with a client that they would have been following during their supervised clinical placement.

- Prepare a structured session plan that reflects adequate theoretical underpinnings and awareness of the client's communication strengths and weaknesses;
- Discuss session outcomes objectively and critically.

2. Skills:

- Carry out a session with a client followed during a previous episode of care;
