DESCRIPTION The presented session (conducted in the University Teaching and Research clinic) should be well structured and relevant to the communication skills and needs of the respective client. A session plan should be made available to assessors immediately prior to the session with clear aims and objectives backed up by appropriate rationales including supporting references.

The session is followed by a short discussion with the assessors, whereby the student would be expected to give an evaluation of the session.

Questions related to Case File 2 may be posed by the assessors during the viva voce.

Study-unit Aims:

Students are expected to integrate theoretical understanding, knowledge and skills acquired during their four years of studies by running a clinical session with an 'unseen' client (i.e., that they would have not encountered during their supervised clinical placements).

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Prepare a structured session plan that reflects adequate theoretical underpinnings and based on screening and analyzing the client's communication strengths and weaknesses';
- Discuss session outcomes objectively and critically.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Carry out an effective session efficiently with an 'unseen client';
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the session, including procedures employed, interpersonal skills, and flexibility as well as the client's needs in terms of management by a speech and language pathologist and possible referral route.
