- To review national and international legal directive and guidelines as pertaining to use of toxic compounds;
- To appraise the roles of the key regional, national and international bodies responsible for drug regulation, drug safety, chemical safety and chemical incidents.

Learning Outcomes:

- Recognise those policies which can be put in place to prevent toxic effects from chemicals and pharmaceuticals and other toxins;
- Appreciate how national and international legal directive and guidelines can be implemented in order to control the use of toxic compounds;
- Evaluate the roles of the key regional, national and international bodies responsible for drug regulation, drug safety, chemical safety and chemical incidents;
- Appreciate current practice in relation to risk management in preventative, forensic and regulatory toxicology.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Plan and apply policies which can be put in place to prevent toxic effects from chemicals and pharmaceuticals and other toxins;
- Explain national and international legal directives and guidelines in relation to the use of toxic compounds;
