| DESCRIPTION | This study unit is a follow-up of CRS 2000. It discusses in more detail ethical aspects related to materials and methods in conservation and restoration with particular reference to consolidation, cleaning and reintegration together with aspects of science and technology. These aspects are also handled in relation to specific case studies treating conservation and restoration of easel paintings and polychrome sculpture, stone and metal artifacts, textile artifacts, and leather, parchment and bookbinding materials. Case studies will include examples selected for each area of study as conservation problems of relevance to this course, though not studied/published earlier. Learning Outcomes: • Define the general ethics on materials and methods in conservation and restoration • Apply these principles to their assessment of a case study in their area of study • Discuss these principles in relation to other areas of study Essential Bibliography: Ashurst J. and Dimes F.G., Conservation of Building and Decorative Stone, London Butterworth, 1998.
