DESCRIPTION Contemporary Image Making is divided into two parts. Part one of this study-unit consists of lectures and class discussions. The aim of the first part is to provide students with an introduction to Sociological and Visual Culture theory. The theories discussed are related mainly to the social and cultural aspects of the global contemporary art world and the power of images within this context. The lectures will be followed by a class discussion on the themes mentioned.

The second part of the study-unit is aimed to contextualise the theory by referencing contemporary artistic practice and to analyse such practice through a thematic approach. The aim is to locate art practice within a theoretical framework and to attempt to open up the work to diverse readings and interpretations. The study-unit encourages ongoing discussions and it allows for multiple modes of analysis.
