| DESCRIPTION | The purpose of the study-unit is to focus students’ attention on canonical works from literary traditions other than English. The nature of the study-unit will vary from year to year, but lecturers will select between one and three different writers, explore the thematic and formal qualities of the chosen works and discuss the nature of the artistic achievement concerned. Writers chosen may include Dante, Cervantes, Racine, Gustave Flaubert, Marcel Proust, Stéphane Mallarmé, Jorge Luis Borges, and Italo Calvino. Reading List: Selected Reading The writers chosen for each study-unit will be announced a semester in advance, and an appropriate reading pack made available. |
