| DESCRIPTION | Learning Objective To consolidate the students' awareness of linguistics and of the make-up of the English language by reviewing aspects of its linguistic structure. Theoretical issues arising from attempts at describing the phonological and syntactic structure of English will be discussed. Content Covered Either: Lecturer: Dr A. Vella This course aims to consolidate students' knowledge about the make-up of the English language and to discuss issues arising from attempts at describing the phonological and syntactic structure of English. Students will be guided to synthesise earlier study of the structure of English by writing essays on selected topics. Or: Lecturer: Prof. L. Sciriha In this seminar, a number of topics in sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and discourse analysis will be discussed. Bibliography No specific textbook is set. |
