DESCRIPTION The study-unit will allow students to practise the 4 language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing at an advanced level suitable for undergraduates. It will address the specific challenges of writing in academic French at undergraduate level and will tackle students' recurrent mistakes. Both fluency and accuracy will be targeted.

Moreover the use of French songs and articles will familiarise students with contemporary French culture.

Study-Unit Aims:

- To provide students with the opportunity to interact in French and thus improve their oral fluency;
- To improve students' writing skills and accuracy by working on recurrent mistakes;
- To provide students with the tools needed to write academic French;
- To practice the 4 language skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking;
- To discuss French current events.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Use a wider variety of tenses to situate events in time and to refine accuracy of expression;
- Use appropriate grammatical structures and speech acts in order to carry out their communicative needs at B2 level;
- Use appropriate linking words to write cohesive paragraphs and texts;
- Describe and discuss the contemporary French cultural scene.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Express himself/herself more confidently in French, both orally and in writing;
- Better understand texts and oral clips at B2 level;
- Target specific shortcomings in his/her writing;
- Write more flowing and cohesive texts.
