DESCRIPTION This study-unit strengthens students' language skills in a variety of communicative contexts at Intermediate level. Topics include the European context, citizenship, media and technology, University and professional life.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to equip students with the necessary vocabulary, expressions, speech acts and grammatical structures in order to express themselves fluently and accurately about a number of topics at Intermediate Level.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Use a wider variety of tenses to situate events in time (eg. plus-que-parfait, la phrase passive etc.);
- Use appropriate grammatical structures and speech acts in order to carry out their communicative needs at intermediate level;
- Use vocabulary related to the European context, citizenship, media and technology,University and professional life;
- Use connectors in order to produce a cohesive written paragraph;
- Summarise others' works and ideas in a limited number of words.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Understand the main points of clear standard speech in French at B1.1 level on familiar matters encountered in work, leisure, school etc;
- Understand texts in French that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or job-related language;
- Identify salient points in a reading text and express them concisely;
- Deal with most situations likely to arise where the language is spoken;
- Connect phrases in French in a simple way in order to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions.
