DESCRIPTION What is a literary work? What binds an author to his work? What is a classical work? What constitutes a narrative? What is intertextuality, the paratext and the reader-response theories? What is the function of literature? These are a few of the questions which this study-unit will try to answer through the reading of a rich corpus of theoretical and critical texts ranging from Aristotle, Plato, Bakhtine, Lukács, Blanchot, Barthes, Genette or Todorov, to the most recent works of Antoine Compagnon, Pierre Bayard and Jean-Marie Schaeffer.
