DESCRIPTION This study-unit is composed of short presentations of major Francophone playwrights, stage directors and dramatic movements with a study of specific texts. It will give students the opportunity to read and discover various Francophone dramatic canonical texts from the 20th century to today. Students will become acquainted with Francophone dramatic authors and movements.

Study-Unit Aims:

- To introduce students to major Francophone playwriters;
- To introduce students to major Francophone directors and scenographers;
- To present the main dramatic movements;
- To analyse the differences in francophone theatres.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- define the characteristics of modern and contemporary Francophone theatre;
- analyze the thematic, aesthetic and poetic specificities of arguments relating to the innovative character of the dramatic art of a contemporary Francophone text.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- analyze, produce and act extracts from Francophone texts;
- carry out an in-depth analysis of a dramatictext, taking in consideration critical discourses by playwriters and actors.
