DESCRIPTION This study-unit provides the link between theory and practice in the area of supervision and gives students the opportunity to learn and practice supervision in a variety of contexts including individual and group supervision. Students will familiarize themselves and learn to practice supervision in its different formats including live supervision, audio and videotape reviews and presentations of clinical sessions and supervision of supervision.

Study-unit Aims:

The Award aims to teach students:
- to make sense of the process of supervision.
- to practice supervision in a variety of formats and settings.
- to deal with impasse in the therapeutic and supervisory relationship.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- make the link between systemic theory and supervision practice
- distinguish resonance from personal life and its impact on the therapeutic process.
- identify the needs of supervisees in the different stages of the therapeutic journey.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- develop the core skills of effective supervision with a special emphasis on the creation of trust between the supervisor and supervisee.
- implement a number of techniques that are helpful to use during supervision in its different formats including one to one supervision, group supervision and tape supervision.
- distinguish resonance with personal life during family therapy supervision.

ADDITIONAL NOTES Pre-requisite Qualification: Master in Family Therapy and a minimum of 4 years as a family therapist or other related professionals who have the necessary clinical experience to be in a position to receive training in supervision.
