DESCRIPTION Candidates will be required to identify and carry out research on an agreed topic. The research will be related to the candidate's main areas of research and has to support and contribute to the knowledge gained by the candidate in his/her area of expertise. The candidate will produce an academic article which specifications and a template will be provided by the Supervisor. The candidate will also be required to present the research orally in a public venue.

The outcomes of this study-unit are:
- the writing-up of academic research in journal article style;
- prepare candidate for procedures for publication in academic journals;
- oversee the whole research process in a 'mini-dissertation' environment and write up in a set word limit;
- present the research in both written and oral styles.

Study-unit Aims:

- Enables student to evaluate the main texts related to the theme of research.
- Enables student to provide skills in developing in logical argument and the proper epistemological background to the area of research.
- To assist student to present ideas and preliminary research in the form of an academic paper.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- write and academic research paper,
- be prepared for procedures for publications,
- be properly focused on the theme of the research.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- be proficient in selecting articles and journals for reading on the theme;
- be knowledgeable in handling technical documents and integrating them to academic material;
- develop oral presentation skills.
