| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit seeks to highlight the use of language in environmental issues. Since the beginning of the ecological movement in Europe at the 1960s, issues of the environment and its protection became such important parts of politics that no party can ignore them any more. Going hand in hand with this development, the German economy discovered the importance of renewable energies, energy saving vehicles and machines. Nowadays, Germany is one of the leading economies worldwide in the field of solar and wind energy, of petrol-saving vehicles and the production of food from organic farming, a seminal market having certain rules - and a certain language. This unit seeks to offer a solid understanding of typical vocabulary and terminology used in the discourse of environmental issues, both in politics and economics. The listening comprehension will consist of video and audio extracts from debates on environmental topics while communication skills might be enhanced by simulated discussions, role plays etc. Furthermore, it is aimed to visit a German-Maltese company dealing with energy saving products. The study-unit thus aims at offering a solid understanding of typical vocabulary and terminology used in the discourse of environmental issues, both in politics and economics. Study-unit Aims The study-unit aims at improving the participants' understanding of German with respect to environmental issues, and at improving their active skills in producing written texts as well as using oral German in various situations with respect to environmental issues (environment protection, energy saving products, sustainability of energy use, alternative energies, ecology, environment policy etc.) Learning Outcomes 1.
