| DESCRIPTION | Entsprechend der rasanten Entwicklung des modernen Dienstleistungssektors und der Ausdifferenzierung von Wirtschaftssegmenten ist eine zunehmende Spezialisierung von sogenannten Fachsprachen zu beobachten. Auch Studenten des Faches Deutsch – besonders jene, die eine Tätigkeit im deutschsprachigen Raum oder für deutsche, österreichische oder schweizerische Firmen und Organisationen anstreben – haben sich mit diesen Entwicklungen auseinanderzusetzen und sich mit ihnen vertraut zu machen. Hier skizzierter Kurs behandelt das Thema ‚Wirtschaftsdeutsch’ und zielt speziell auf eine Analyse der Formalien, inhaltlichen Charakteristiken und Codes von zentralen Schriftdokumenten der deutschen Arbeitswelt: Berichte, Protokolle, Bestellungen, Arbeitszeugnisse, Gutachten etc. Natürlich wird in diesem Zusammenhang auch das entsprechende – nicht selten aus dem anglo-amerikanischen Raum eingeflossene – spezielle Vokabular berücksichtigt. Die Beschäftigung mit diesem Bereich der deutschen Sprache eröffnet gleichzeitig wertvolle Einblicke in spezifisch ‚deutsche’ Arbeitsprozesse und Techniken der Problemlösungen in der Arbeitswelt. In our modern complex environment, based on utilitarian needs, language gets more and more specialized. Students of a foreign language who have reached an advanced level of proficiency in the language and who may want to work in a business environment therefore need to learn the specialized vocabulary and textual structures of the language of business. This includes specialized codes and structures created by the needs and evolution of the various sectors of the economy (whether industrial or services orientated). This course aims to introduce ‘Wirtschaftsdeutsch’ (Business German). The emphasis is laid on the comprehension and analysis of German business texts (reports, minutes, references, orders ec.). During the course the respective vocabulary and grammar, including abbrevations, terms and codes will be introduced and practised. The analysis of German ‘Arbeitszeugnisse’ and ‘Gutachten’ (different types of references) and their codes will give participants an insight into codes of behaviour and conduct. This goes hand in hand with an understanding of a specifically ‘German’ attitude towards facing challenges and tasks in business matters. This coure is recommended to any student aiming to work in German-speaking countries or with German, Austrian or Swiss companies, corporations or institutions both in Malta and abroad. Reading List - Participants will be provided with the necessary material and handouts in the form of photocopies. At the end will be an assignment, including a presentation. |
