TITLE Deutsche Literaturgeschichte: Von 1945 bis zur Gegenwart / History of German Literature: From 1945 to the present

LEVEL 03 - Years 2, 3, 4 in Modular Undergraduate Course



DESCRIPTION The third part of the study-unit German literary history will pick up chronologically from part 2. It will start with the early 20th Century and focus on central literary movements, but also on less canonical texts, such as writing by women. The main focus of this study-unit, however, is the post-45 period up to the present, again canonical texts will be studied alongside more marginalized works.

Der dritte Teil des Kurses Deutsche Literaturgeschichte beginnt chronologisch dort, wo Teil 2 aufhört. Er beginnt also mit dem frühen 20. Jahrhundert und konzentriert sich auf zentrale literarische Strömungen. Daneben betrachtet er auch weniger kanonische Texte, etwa die Werke weiblicher Autoren. Der Hauptfokus dieses Kurses aber liegt auf der Zeit nach 1945 bis zur Gegenwart, hierbei werden wieder kanonische Texte neben stärker marginalisierten betrachtet.

Study-unit Aims:

The study-unit is designed to strengthen students' understanding of German literary history. It gives them the opportunity of studying contemporary German literature.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- analyse literary texts according to their form and genre traditions and within their (literary) historical contexts;
- comprehend German literary history.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- demonstrate improved reading skills;
- reflect on literary history in connection to social, political and cultural developments.

- Excerpts from central literary texts will be provided in the lessons.
