| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is designed to provide learners with the theory and practice of vocational pedagogy to be able to teach an introductory application of face and hair treatments, including knowledge of products and effects on the skin, the ability to identify hair and skin tests and conditions, and the correct procedure to shampoo and condition the specific hair type. Aspects of assessment related to these areas will be explored throughout the study-unit. Study-Unit Aims: The main aim of this study-unit is to enable prospective Hairdressing and Beauty teachers to learn the various pedagogies required by this curricular area. It will help develop the skills and competences that reliably lead to achievement of the learning outcomes for Hairdressing and Beauty as a VET subject in Secondary school students. The study-unit will address one aspect of the curriculum, namely principles of face and hair treatments including knowledge of products and their effects on the skin, the ability to identify hair and skin tests and conditions and the procedure to shampoo and condition the hair. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Explain the concepts of effective face, hair and skin treatments and products; - Evaluate different teaching and learning methods that cater for students who have different learning abilities; - Describe various pedagogical tools suitable to engage students learning Hairdressing and Beauty, particularly effective different facial care products, different face care treatments, application of shampoo and conditioner on the hair and scalp using different massage techniques, and identification of different hair and scalp conditions using different hair tests. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Guide and supervise learners in the safe use of hair and beauty equipment; - Use a blend of teaching and learning methods by applying modern pedagogies, such as experiential learning; - Assess students in relation to the choice and use of effective face, hair and skin care treatments and products.
