DESCRIPTION This study-unit is designed to provide learners with theoretical and practical knowledge related to discrimination, and the way care professionals, legislation and support services help to empower vulnerable individuals. In addition, learners will become proficient in the key aspects associated with equality, diversity and quality care. Aspects of assessment related to these areas will be explored throughout the study-unit.

Study-Unit Aims:

The main aim of this study-unit is to enable prospective Health and Social Care teachers to master the key principles of equality in diversity and quality care that help to empower vulnerable individuals. It also provides the competencies required by the learners to effectively use pedagogies to achieve the learning outcomes of the secondary school syllabus related to the area of equality, diversity and rights.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- descibe pedagogical tools used to engage students learning about equality and diversity and how legislation, care professionals and services help to empower vulnerable individuals;
- explain the concepts of equality, diversity and quality care.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- assess students in relation to equality and diversity and how legislation, care professionals and services help to empower vulnerable individuals;
- use a blend of teaching and learning methologies;
- demonstrate to others the application of knowledge in case studies of vulnerable individuals.
