TITLE Placement

UM LEVEL 02 - Years 2, 3 in Modular Undergraduate Course

MQF LEVEL 5

ECTS CREDITS 4

DEPARTMENT History

DESCRIPTION This study-unit is designed to bridge academic learning with real-world application by providing history students with direct exposure to diverse professional environments relevant to their field. It offers a unique opportunity to explore potential career paths and develop workplace competencies in heritage organizations, national archives, ministries such as the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs, NGOs, and other entities willing to host student placements.

Once placements begin, students are expected to complete 64 hours of on-site work experience. The placement serves not only to familiarise them with daily operations but also to provide insight into the wider professional roles and expectations within their chosen field. Apart from the 64 hours of work-on-site, to ensure a meaningful experience, students are required to undertake another 26 hours of research and skills development (Independent study). This includes an initial preparatory phase during which students evaluate and understand the nature of the organization they wish to join. This helps them align their academic background and competencies with the specific demands of the prospective work environment and enables them to make an informed choice when indicating their placement preferences. Part of these 26 hours will also be dedicated to learning new skills or deepening their understanding of specific tasks as required by the host organization during the placement itself, beyond the standard 64 hours. This process encourages adaptability, initiative, and an appreciation of professional development as an ongoing and integral component of workplace engagement. Tutorials (2 hrs) give student the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback which often crop up in relation to the specific work placement environment and study-unit requirements, like the work placement agreement, portfolio, what is expected during presentation, structure of final reporting etc.
