DESCRIPTION | Students will be introduced to the second segment of the MATSEC intermediate Pure Mathematics relevant to their subject areas. The study-unit will include the following tools and approaches and emphasis of their application to their relevant contexts and realities: - Differentiation - Integration - Matrices (including 3x3) - Probability Study-Unit Aims: The aim of the study-unit is to build upon General Mathematics 1 study-unit to better prepare students for their undergraduate degree. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Perform differentiation on different functions; - Integrate different functions; - Work with matrices – up to 3x3 matrices; - Solve simple probability problems. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Differentiate algebraic, exponential and logarithmic functions; - Differentiate sums, products and quotients of functions; - Integrate algebraic, exponential and logarithmic functions; - Add, subtract and multiply matrices (different sizes); - Find determinant and inverse of matrices (up to 3x3).
