ECTS CREDITS 2

DEPARTMENT Insurance and Risk Management

DESCRIPTION This study-unit includes simulation games which simulate real life situations relating to health insurance and captives insurance. The students will be split up into teams of 3 to 5 players, which will compete against each other to come up with different solutions for real-life problems in the above areas. The lecturers will explain and supervise the games and once the day is over, the students will be asked to hand in a write-up about their experience.

PwC Malta will be designing these games and sponsoring this study-unit.

The game has many attributes detailed below.

- Social. “It is not the game play per se but the social life around the edge of the game that carries much of the richness in terms of the game’s meaning, its value, and its social and cultural impact.”
- Research. When a new player enters a game, he or she must immediately recall prior learning, decide what new information is needed, and apply it to the new situation.
- Problem solving. Knowing what information or techniques to apply in which situations enables greater success, specifically, problem solving. This often involves collective action through communities of practice.
- Transfer. Require transfer of learning from other venues―life, school, and other games and, Experiential.
