DESCRIPTION In this study-unit participants will be provided with knowledge about various psychological perspectives pertaining to creativity. The mediating relationship between individual characteristics and situational factors involved in creativity will be explored.

The identification of a number of psychological elements that are related to creativity include:

- The creative process and the creative product;
- The environment in relation to creativity;
- Sensation and Perception;
- The link between wellbeing, psychopathology and creativity;
- Learning and memory;
- Motivation and emotions.

Study-unit Aims:

The main aim of this study-unit is to impart insights into psychological perspectives related to areas of creativity. This should lead to a better appreciation of some of the factors that may impinge on the creative process.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Describe issues including the characteristics of creative people, psychological components of creativity, applications of creativity (in science, music, art, etc.), and the relationship between creativity and mental health;
- Explain the role of the creative thinking process;
- Describe how aspects of the environment play an important role in the manifestation of creativity.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Identify psychological elements that may be helpful in enhancing the creative process;
- Manipulate variables in their current environment in order to improve the creative output.
