DESCRIPTION Entrepreneurship turns ideas and innovations into manifest everyday practice and can be found in many organisational settings, including SMEs, corporate organisations and the public sector. A strategic entrepreneurial mindset and entrepreneurship skills are therefore essential not only for starting up one's own business but also for employment within SMEs and large organisations. Strategic choices made by entrepreneurs have major consequences for SME performance. This study-unit explores the factors that influence entrepreneurial strategic decisions by integrating theories from strategic management, entrepreneurship, decision-making, conflict management and negotiation, and applying it through a series of lectures, case studies and simulation/exercises.

Indicative Content:

- The firm’s strategy and the environment.
- Strategic entrepreneurial decision-making.
- Conflict management and negotiation for entrepreneurs.
- Strategies and tactics to create value in negotiations.
- Developing the negotiation capability of the firm.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to provide students with a firm understanding of the theory and practice of strategic entrepreneurship, decision-making and negotiation in organisational contexts, including the challenges faced by entrepreneurs engaged in decision-making processes within organisations.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Evaluate the conditions and activities that influence the degree of entrepreneurial behaviour in an organisational context;
- Critically assess an organisation's characteristics that facilitate the strategic decision-making process.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to plan and implement activities which will establish an entrepreneurial environment within an organisation's structure.
