MQF LEVEL 5

ECTS CREDITS 6

DEPARTMENT International Relations

DESCRIPTION This is a six credit study-unit. It is geared to the needs of second year undergraduate students of International Relations. The purpose of the study-unit is to provide these students with the tools necessary to deal with research in the field of IR and therefore enable them to deal competently with their final dissertation. The course will also serve as a bridge to further research studies but will in no way overlap with that provided at masters level but will rather complement this. This study-unit will endeavor to fill a gap which exists in the curriculum of undergraduate students in the area of research studies.

The concept behind the structure of the study-unit is to provide a number of two hour sessions. In each case the first hour will be a delivered lecture by the professional concerned. In the second hour the format will be that of a seminar. The student will be provided with material, and discussion, debate, and brainstorming will take place on methods of research in the field. The study-unit will be given by a number of lecturers in order to draw on expertise in the different areas of study.

The study-unit will include a 6 hour programme on SPSS.
