DESCRIPTION This study-unit is an intermediate course about Italian language and Italian civilization. It combines grammar, vocabulary and communication skills studied within real life situations and is designed for students who would like to express themselves in a wide range of situations and to deal with non-routine information.

Study-unit Aims:

- To improve the students’ vocabulary and to enable them to build common sentence structures;
- To improve the students’ ability in to communicate in both spoken and written Italian;
- To enhance reading and listening comprehension skills;
- To create an awareness of the basic grammatical aspects of Italian;
- To create an awareness of the basic topics of Italian civilization and culture.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- understand the standard speech that arises in certain everyday situations (for example, at school, the work place, on vacation);
- engage in conversational situations when travelling in Italy;
- produce a simple and cohesive text on familiar subjects or topics of personal interest;
- narrate an event, an experience; describe a wish or a goal, and explain a project or an idea.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- communicate in a simple but effective manner, understand and use common expressions and vocabulary;
- impart information about a variety of situations: one’s family, shopping, professional situations and common Italian-related topics.
