| DESCRIPTION | This Unit, which will include formal lectures and study visits, will give basic theoretical and practical information on how best to take care – and hence preserve – cherished and possibly valuable items of significance to the owner. These will include items such as paintings, furniture, textiles (such as clothes, lace, carpets), books and works of art on paper, photographs and ceramics. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the Unit the student will be able to: - Demonstrate the ability to distinguish between basic dos and don’ts when the discussing the care of objects; - Explain clearly which parameters will prolong the life of an object; - Outline clearly under which circumstances a professional conservator should be called in for advice. 2. Skills: By the end of the Unit the student will be able to describe and demonstrate how to handle, display and store an object of value correctly.
