| DESCRIPTION | This Unit will focus on the competencies that equip citizens to better live up to the challenge of the knowledge society. Adopting a ‘hands-on’ approach, the Unit will provide learning experiences aimed at developing competencies in media, innovation, knowledge sharing, information representation, networking, learning management and knowledge management. Each participant will develop an e-Portfolio to manage, record and evaluate his/her own learning. At the end of the Unit, this webfolio will include all the themes discussed, all the tools used and all artefacts developed. Most important, citizens will have to reflect on the content and the process of learning. Thus the ePortfolio will also include their ‘reflection in action’ (reflection entered while executing a task) and ‘reflection on action’ (reflection about learning with technology, reflection after finishing major tasks and reflection about the webfolio-based learning and socialisation). Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the Unit the student will be able to: - Understand the role of media in the knowledge society; - Understand the versatility of technology in mediating different modes of learning, communication and socialisation; - Appreciate the patterns of interaction of citizens with digital tools and environments. 2. Skills: By the end of the Unit the student will be able to: - Identify and describe the key digital competencies related to active citizenship; - Ability to identify digital tools according to the task at hand; - Ability to adopt a critical approach to the Internet and Social Media.
