DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will help students familiarise themselves with available software that can be easily and freely acquired and used to develop teaching material in MFL. The students will have an opportunity to develop material and to evaluate it. The students will be guided on how to create tasks related to all the language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing), within a communicative framework. Guides for teachers will be written to accompany the resources created. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to give the necessary knowledge to teachers of MFL on how to develop teaching resources, especially ones that are appropriate for the teaching of MFL. Attention will be given to all the language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing in a communicative framework. It will further show students how to apply criteria of evaluation of resources to a number of existing resources in order for them to improve their own resources. The students will have the opportunity to develop resources according to local needs and specific to a variety of contexts in which MFL is being taught. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Determine criteria for the evaluation of a teaching resource with regard to the technical aspects, as well as the subject content and teaching methodology; 2. Take decisions throughout the process of resource development and evaluate how each resource is deemed appropriate according to the teaching context and learner needs; 3. Match different resources with different language skills. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Develop a variety of teaching resources according to the age, ability and needs of learners; 2. Evaluate the quality of existing teaching material from a quality point of view; 3. Evaluate the quality of resources in terms of teaching content vis-a-vis the language skills within a communicative approach; 4. Discuss the process of resource development with peers and experts.
