TITLE Die kritische Anwendung von modernen Medien im DaF-Bereich

UM LEVEL 05 - Postgraduate Modular Diploma or Degree Course

MQF LEVEL 7

ECTS CREDITS 5

DEPARTMENT Languages and Humanities Education

DESCRIPTION The study-unit includes very practical hands-on activities through which the students can critically evaluate the way how technologies and audio-visual tools may be used effectively as pedagogical tools within the German as a Foreign Language (GFL) learning context.

The study-unit will tackle individual technologies and will focus on the use and abuse of these technologies when used within the GFL learning context. These technologies include PowerPoint, social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, Blogs, Emails, You Tube resources and other online texts.

Study-Unit Aims:

The main aims of this particular study-unit are:
- To introduce students to the possible technologies they can make use of while teaching GFL and to skills they need when analyzing these tools critically;
- To show students how they could themselves design lesson plans and conduct lessons which include the use (i.e. not the abuse) of technology.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts and principles that they require when using audio-visual technologies within the GFL learning context;
- Evaluate online resources and other technologies they encounter and their effectiveness as tools serving to teach GFL;
- Reflect about ways how as prospective teachers they can help secondary school GFL students themselves design/find/use technologies and audio-visual resources to improve their GFL linguistic skills.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Assess online technologies and/or design their own technologies to use within the GFL learning context;
- Use the appropriate technologies according to the particular GFL learning contexts they are working in.
