DESCRIPTION This study-unit will examine European Studies in the context of a secondary school option subject. European Studies includes various contemporary topics which are close to the students' everyday life. It will introduce the basic planning and pedagogy of European Studies within a framework of various curricula. This study-unit will concentrate on what is expected from the European Studies teacher in terms of the planning and organizing the teaching of the subject, keeping the 21st century skills in mind, mainly Global and Cultural awareness.

Study-Unit Aims:

The aim is to:

- Examine the European Studies Curriculum;
- Make prospective teachers aware of the different teaching styles which can be used during European Studies lessons;
- Enable prospective teachers to organize the teaching of European Studies;
- Focus on the preparation of a European Studies lesson.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Identify the content suitable for lessons in European Studies;
- Identify the different teaching styles that can be used during a European Studies lesson;
- Organize the teaching of European Studies;
- Prepare European Studies lesson plans which include objectives, teaching method, resources to be used.


2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Create lesson plans and lesson notes for effective teaching;
- Organise the teaching of European Studies in a way which meets the individual learning ways of students;
- Prepare the European Studies lessons program.
