| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit introduces general management principles and their relevance to different types of library, information and archival institutions. Several aspects of management will be addressed, including: leadership theories, organizational structures, motivation, workforce planning and staff training, groups and teams management and management ethics. Study-unit Aims: To familiarize students with theories and practical techniques relating to management and human resources, leadership and organizational behaviour, with particular emphasis to information centres. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Discuss the basic principles and key features of leadership and human resources management; - Identify key principles of management ethics; - Recognize the particularity of the library/archives environment in terms of HR management. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Define leadership and management situations/problems at work and develop solutions; - Design a basic HR plan for a library or archive environment. - Discuss innovative management solutions for library/archive case studies.
