DESCRIPTION The study-unit explores teaching and learning in a knowledge society considering philosophical, epistemological, pedagogical, sociological and technological aspects. Participants will be guided to develop competences in managing different modes of online learning and in using knowledge building and sharing tools. They will be guided to become competent in managing, evaluating and creating open on-line educational resources. A learner-centred approach will be adopted elaborating on learner's characteristics and behaviours in technology-mediated learning environments. The unit will also train participants how they can educate students for the internet by proposing a competence framework for living in a hybrid reality and for using the internet in a secure and responsible way.

Study-Unit Aims:

- Introduce students to various theoretical and pedagogical perspectives about TETL.
- Familiarise students with different learning technologies, virtual learning environments, digital tools and Open Educational Resources.
- Promote understanding of the main pedagogical models underlying technology-enhanced teaching and learning.
- Familiarise students with the concept of multimodality and its relevance to TETL.
- Develop competence in using the internet in a secure and responsible way.
- Assist students in understanding the ePortfolio methodology in managing one's learning.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Identify and discuss different theoretical perspectives (learning theories) relevant to TETL.
- Discuss and apply different pedagogical Models for TETL.
- Identify different categories of OERs.
- Understand the concept of multimodality and its implications and application for teaching and learning.
- Identify different types of ePortfolios.
- List a number of on-line tools for developing ePortfolios.
- Develop an ePortfolio and use it to plan, record and evaluate personal learning.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the potential of the internet in teaching and learn together with the threats and challenges that it offers.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Identify digital tools in relation to pedagogical approaches to be promoted.
- Use common tools and on-line environments for TETL.
- Develop multimodal teaching and learning resources.
- Develop and manage a personal ePortfolio using it to plan, record and evaluate personal learning.
- Evaluate OERs.
- Develop good practice in using the internet in a secure and responsible way.
- Understand and practice netiquette.
