| DESCRIPTION | Dan il-kors jittratta wahda mill-aktar kategoriji grammatikali importanti fil-Malti, il-kategorija tal-gens. Fil-bidu jigu stabbiliti d-differenzi u l-korrispondenzi bejn is-sess bijologiku u l-gens grammatikali. Imbaghad tinghata idea tad-distinzjonijiet ewlenin ta’ tipi differenti ta’ sistemi tal-gens grammatikali li jezistu f’lingwi differenti u tal-kriterji li bihom naslu ghal dawn id-distinzjonijiet. Il-qofol tal-kors jittratta l-gens grammatikali fil-Malti. Wara li jigi diskuss il-wirt Gharbi djalettali f’dan il-qasam, issir valutazzjoni tal-influwenzi li garrab kemm min-naha tas-sistemi differenti ta’ lingwi barranin li gew f’kuntatt ma’ lsienna, kif ukoll minhabba valuri socjali godda li gew mal-bidla fir-rwoli tal-mara u tar-ragel fis-socjetà moderna. Għanijiet tal-Kors L-ghan ewlieni tal-kors huwa li jiddistingwi b’mod car bejn komponent grammatikali – il-gens grammatikali (il-maskil u l-femminil) - u komponent iehor ekstralingwistiku – issess bijologiku (ragel – mara). Minkejja li tezistirabta bejniethom fis-sistema tal-gens f’bosta lingwi, inkluz il-Malti, u minkejja li dawnil-komponenti ta’ spiss thalltu flimkien f’xoghlijiet ta’ natura lingwistika, mhumiex l-istess haga.
