DESCRIPTION This study-unit is aimed to develop the student’s voice through the understanding and application of a good vocal technique in a varied repertoire. Students will explore and perform a selection of vocal works in different styles. All students who would like to choose this study-unit are required to sit for an audition.
Only successful students will be allowed to register for this course.

Study-unit Aims:

1. Develop a singer's vocal technique in terms of:
    a. breath and vocal support;
    b. tone production;
    c. vocal strength;
    d. flexibility and ability to create dynamic contrasts.
2. develop a singer’s ability to choose repertoire best suited to his/her voice;
3. develop the singer’s musical and interpretative skills;
4. develop the singer’s performance skills.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of the study unit the student will be able to:

a. comprehend basic concepts of vocal technique;
b. comprehend how to study and perform vocal music correctly.

2. Skills
By the end of the study unit the student will be able to:

a. perform a selection of vocal repertoire;
b. perform with a good vocal technique;
c. perform with a stylistically good interpretation.

ADDITIONAL NOTES Pre-requisite: Intermediate level of knowledge and technique in Singing

All students are required to sit for an audition. The audition will be held during the period prior to registering for the study-unit.
