TITLE Ensemble Techniques 1

LEVEL 02 - Years 2, 3 in Modular Undergraduate Course


DEPARTMENT Music Studies

DESCRIPTION This study-unit presents the performing students with the opportunity to perform music in ensemble. Emphasis is placed on both the individual and collective contribution towards a refined level of chamber music interpretation. Standard repertoire from the different periods will be chosen. The study-unit consists of classes, guided lectures, public performances and/or masterclasses which work towards the development of necessary skills in the performance and understanding of ensemble repertoire.

Study-unit Aims:

To develop through study, peer observation and performance, the skills of ensemble techniques and chamber music performance.

Learning Outcomes:

Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

a) have a basic knowledge of chamber music for his/her instrument, as well as other combinations within the classical music genre;
b) identify the skillss required for the successful performance of said repertoire;
c) analyse the required techniques for successful performance and implement them.

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

a) prepare and present works for chamber ensembles, in which they are active participants;
b) choose and present, in a practical way, a repertoire for public performance, given guidelines of concert preparation and audience development.
