| DESCRIPTION | During the third clinical placement, the nursing student will continue to consolidate knowledge of basic nursing skills, and will observe and carry out (under direct supervision) more complex nursing procedures in the various clinical areas. Students will be introduced to more diverse clinical areas including mental health, pediatrics, obstetrics and critical settings. Practice will take place in both the clinical skills laboratories as well as the clinical settings in all health care entities. Study-Unit Aims: By the end of the study-unit the student will reach the required level of competence expected from a second year student. These competencies will be specified in the practice portfolio. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Work on his/her personal learning needs; - Assess patients effectively; - Obtain clinical information on a wide range of conditions; and - Administer drugs safely. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Discuss with the multidisciplinary team, any change in patient's conditions; - Communicate effectively with patients and relatives; and - Maintain confidentiality.
